Without enough moisture, beards can quickly become itchy, scratchy, brittle and uncomfortable. This is especially true in winter and in dry climates like Alaska. That’s why Bad Bob’s Alaskan Beard Products have hydrating ingredients specially formulated for beards, facial skin and the beard hair follicles within.
1. Wash: We recommend starting with the wash for a clean beard that still has its natural oils. In the shower, work it into your beard and the skin underneath, letting the lather coat all facial hair. Rinse. Use every day (it’s that gentle!) or at least once a week to remove excess oil and residual product.
2. Oil: On your clean, damp beard, put 2-3 drops of oil in the palm of your hand. Dab with your index finger and rub it onto the skin underneath your beard. Use once a day or, when super dry out, use both morning and night.
3. Butter: After you apply the oil in the morning, take a dime-sized dab from the beard butter tin and soften it in your hands and between your fingers. Comb your fingers through your beard in all directions and wipe any excess on your arms (your tattoos will thank you!) Use once or twice a day as needed.
4. Balm Use after (or instead of) beard butter to unruly hairs, get the exact look you like, and add additional hydration. Much like applying the butter, you’ll want to rub a pea-sized dab in your hands to soften, then work into beard and shape as desired. Apply once a day in the morning and again as needed.
Both products have conditioning qualities that your beard needs. The difference lies in their control and styling abilities. We like to say, “butter up for softness, use balm to calm.” Beard butter has a lighter feel and can tame fly-aways while keeping your beard hydrated throughout the day. It’s especially great for longer beards and finer facial hair. Beard balm is another hydrating product designed to help calm wild hairs and unruly beards. Guys with short and/or coarser beards will really appreciate its stronger holding power. You can use butter and balm separately or together for maximum hydration and styling benefits.
Our beard products are made with natural ingredients and we purposely sell in smaller unit portions so you’ll finish them while ingredients are fresh, and give you maximum effectiveness. As such, we recommend customers store our beard oil, butter and balm in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Butter and balm may be stored in the fridge for ultimate protection. Opened, unused product will last about 2 years; unopened products will last even longer.
Good idea to keep it handy – BUT – balm and butter are likely to melt in your pocket. Instead, store in an outer jacket pocket, a handy desk drawer or somewhere that doesn’t get too hot (or below freezing).
Absolutely not. Neither Bad Bob’s Alaskan Beard Products nor its ingredient suppliers conduct any kind of test on animals.
"Really good!” is what our customers say. We call it, “cherry pipe tobacco” – it’s a sweet yet masculine smell that’s been very popular. We’ve considered adding more scents to the line but for now we’ve had too much success with the original!
It may very well depend on the beard, but you can’t go wrong with the oil. It’s the essential component of beard care and the one he’ll go through the fastest. If he already has oil, consider butter for general hydration and light control…or balm for hydration and more control, especially if his beard is coarse. Giving beard wash as a gift might be seen as a hint for him to wash his face more often…but he’ll probably really appreciate its gentle cleansing and the resulting feel. It’s quite the quandary…so better get him one of each!

The original beard oil formula was concocted right here in Eagle River, Alaska. With friends and family clamoring for more, I hired an Alaskan artist to design my logo and packaging and began to ramp up production locally. However I quickly realized I needed the efficiency and clinical testing ability of an established manufacturing company. I found a great solution close to home, without going overseas.
